Acid Rain
The Acid Rain
The Rain can be defined as, the fall of water from the atmosphere towards the Earth in the form of liquid drops.
The normal PH of the Rainwater is 5.6. when The Raindrops react with some Atmospheric pollutants, like Sulpher-oxide (SO2), Nitrogen Di Oxide (No2) it becomes acidic water, when it precipitates on the Eart surface called Acid Rain.
let's have a look at the chief sources of these pollutants like Coal and fossil fuels. when these fuels are used in Industries for Power generation and vehicles for transportation. it results in emissions of Harmful Pollutions like Sulphur dioxide (SOx), Nitrogen dioxide (NOx) and results in Acid Rain.
Through the whole process, various oxides are released into the Open-air, these Oxides react with the moisture, Oxygen in the presence of Sun Light.
As a result of this reaction, Sulfuric-acid and Nitric-Acid are Produced in the air and mixing with rain, these acids fall on Earth, this rain is called Acid-Rain.
Effects
- Affects Natural Ecosystem (flora and fauna).
- Damages Buildings.
- Pollutes Freshwater reserves (river, Lakes, and Ponds).
- It affects marine life.
- Increase the acidity of Soil.
Affect vegetation Branches of trees become bare as leaves fall off.
Measures
- Creating awareness of the sources of Sulfer oxide and Nitro-us oxide can be reduced.
- Conservation of energy.
- Reducing of Motor-vehicles.
- Introducing the effective transport system.
